I have not built this yet, but I designed this so I would have a working idea of what I wanted to make. This is a platform bed frame for a queen-sized bed with a nice little storage area underneath (I'll probably use for shoes). Materials: Bottom piece of plywood is 3/4". Bottom frame is made of 2"x10"s. Next piece of plywood up is 3/4". Platform frame for supporting mattress is made of 2" x 4" s. A queen-sized mattress is 80" x 60" and the platform is 81" x 61" to give 0.5" on each side to allow for covers. On top, another piece of 3/4" plywood. Trim is to prevent mattress sliding around and hide seams. Decided on 1”x8”. And that's pretty much it. I made just a basic rectangular headboard because I don't want this to become too costly and I thought it would keep it look stylish and "modern." I plan on using 2.5” deck screws or perhaps carriage bolts with some wood glue in some places. This design will probably be quite heavy, but it should also be sturdy as a rock. For connecting the 2" x 4" platform to the lower base, toenail the screws going through it into the lower platform, but BE CAREFUL: make sure you can do it at an angle so the screws won't go through the cubby holes underneath and stick out. Always predrill holes. If anyone has any questions, comments, criticism, or ideas for me, let me know! I have thought about reducing the ¾” plywood to ¼”. Not sure. Feel free to modify this design as you wish.
