This was my first attempt at designing and building furniture, as well as my first SketchUp model. This is my own modification of a bench plan from www.ana-white.com. The shelf underneath adds stability to the legs, and is great for storing shoes in a home entryway, or as a home for your cable box and dvd player, with a flat-screen tv on top. The model doesn't show where hardware was used -- there is no complicated joinery, just butt joints with pocket holes for the frame, and legs, and finish nails for the slatted seat and shelf. This bench can be made with about $18 worth of select grade pine 1x2's and 1x1's.
