This iconic bench was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the English architect who frequently collaborated with noted garden designer Gertrude Jekyll. The bench is more properly known as the Thakeham Bench, because the original was designed for the garden at Little Thakeham, near Storrington, in West Sussex. The full-size bench comes in 6- and 8-foot versions. This is the 6-foot bench.
