Frenckell chimney stands in middle of Tampere by the Tammerkoski rapids as a monument for the first paper factory in Finland. On the base of the chimney is written: "Finland's first paper factory was founded to this location by A. R. Häggman" The 65-metre high octagonal chimney was designed by civil engineer Hermann Kauffmann and it was completed in 1876. Chimneys like this stand still in the city of Tampere skyline as a reminder of the industrial age. Right next to the chimney is the old boiler room that is currently in use by the old library as a newspaper reading hall.
