From the book by Cathleen Norman
Golden Old and New - A Walking Tour Guide
(Page 13)
“This story-and-a-half brick home has steep Gothic Revival style gables with spindle work and a knob-like finial. Its long thin windows are Italianate. The incongruous Colonial Revival door enclosure was added in the 1940’s. Its owner, George West, was an original town founder, building the Boston Building, where he ran a printing press upstairs. West later published the Colorado Transcript, Colorado's oldest weekly newspaper. He lived here from 1873 to 1902, then moved to 1210 Illinois. Golden High School principal Samuel Shipman later lived in this house.”
