The "Schranne", a distinctive red-white brick building, is used as a market and event hall. It replaces former buildings like a small church and a salt depot, which too had been used as trading buildings in their latter times. The new building from 1864 by architect Eduard Bürklein has some resemblance to these prior buildings. [Source: Denkmalliste Weißenburg, sign on the building]
