In 1928 the decision to widen Leeds Headrow primarily for improving the through flow of traffic, gave an opportunity for large scale reconstruction. This model represents the new buildings constructed on the south side of the Lower Headrow and were designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield who was also redesigning other areas of the city. The architecture is in keeping with the rest of the Headrow to create a unified appearance and is in a neo-baroque style utilizing a combination of Portland stone and red brick for the facings. The long terrace however was not constructed all at once. For many years, only the lower part existed which was constructed in the early 1930's. The upper section was not completed until well after the second world war in circa 1956.
