From the book Golden Old and New - A Walking Tour Guide by Cathleen Norman (Page 12)
"This two-story brick duplex has leaf and trefoil carvings above the windows, an embellishment seen on other Twelfth Street homes. Original owner John Collum was superintendent of the Malachite Smelter. The Malachite was one of a half-dozen smelters that operated on the banks of Clear Creek in the late 1800s, making use of Golden's ample supply of coal and water to process silver and gold ore from the Clear Creek mining districts."
