The tower was constructed in 1863 after some islanders had pointed at the dangers of Eierlandse grounds. The ignition of the light was a big party, accompanied by fireworks. In the Second World War the tower was bombed by the Germans during the uprising of the Georgians. After the war the tower was restored. This was done by building a new tower enveloping the old tower. On March 24, 1950 the tower was rel-iit. A few years ago, the lighthouse was painted red, after it had been brick-colored for a long time. Because someone had forgotten to use a UV filter in the paint, the tower became more pink than red. The tower has now been repainted.
