Henry Hobson Richardson is considered to be among the greatest and most influential architects of the 19th century. Richardson studied at both Harvard University and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and even developed his own style of architecture known as "Richardsonian Romanesque." Sever Hall, on the campus of Harvard University, was designed by Richardson and was built in 1880. The building is constructed with molded, red brick in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. It is simple and symmetrical, with turrets embedded in the walls, strips of windows, and a Syrian archway entrance all under a hipped, terra cotta tiled roof. The building holds classrooms, academic offices, and the Harvard Extension School's Grossman Library. It is a designated National Historic Landmark. Model by Noel Nemcik.
