From the book by Cathleen Norman
Golden Old and New - A Walking Tour Guide
(Page 11)
"This splendid residence was the home of Dr. James Kelly, Golden's leading physician. Dr. Kelly practiced in an office in his home, ran a local drugstore and was conveniently the town coroner. He was also mayor of Golden in 1880. This dwelling is Golden's fanciest Italianate residence, a style popular nationwide from the 1850s to the 1870s. The low-pitched roof, massive carved roof brackets, and tall thin windows are hallmarks of this style. Notice the returning gable ends. The beige-brick porch was added in 1903. The 3,392-square-foot house was subdivided into apartments in the mid 1900’s; it has since been returned to a single residence. The Golden City Brewery operates out of the historic brick building behind the house and offer tours upon request."
