The Devil's Bridge is one of two bridges on the island of Torcello in the Venetian Lagoon. It is very distinctive in that, along the Bridge of the nail in Cannaregio, has the features of the ancient Venetian bridges without railings. Crosses one of the few internal channels of the island, the one that connects the historic small town of Torcello with the lagoon. The name of the bridge is still unexplained. Some say that the Devils had the nickname of a local family, others go back to a legend. Recent archaeological investigations have confirmed that its construction dates from the fifteenth century as present in the soil between the arch and brick pavement, brick, too, were found remains dating to that period. However, it was found that its foundations are grafted onto existing foundations, dating from the thirteenth century, probably belonging to a former bridge and narrow the current level of about one meter. On August 6, 2009 was finalized on the radical restoration of the monument, with an intervention that has rigorously maintained the original structure and the superstructure reinforcing learning and shoulders.
