Inspired by the wondrous natural features of the Galapagos Islands, Iris has created a spectacular line of chandeliers that cascade with the pulsating life-force of butterflies, dragonflies, and other vibrant creatures of the earth.
Each creation is crafted from more than 400 individually handmade glass pieces, representing icons of life and growth. This original combination of art and industry draws nature into the urban space, and the artificial representation of nature symbolises the distance we, as urban creatures, have from its true self.
The development of the Islas Galapagos series took over a year, as Iris experimented with utilising high-quality fused glass that plays with light in unique forms, resembling the sunrise as viewed from the Galapagos Islands themselves. Elements of the hidden world evolve into a masterpiece that thrums with an internal essence, and brings forth light into even the darkest corner. Our world of the west longs to return to something more organic and primal, and the Islas Galapagos series builds upon that language of longing, creating a better environment by using recyclable materials and renewable energy sources.
