Toy Chest constructed out of pine and mdf (for the base only). I used pre laminated boards from the hardware store for the sides. The rest of the unit is constructed out of standard lengths of pine available from the hardware store.
I have left the model plain as I couldn't find an appropriate colour. I stained mine in Cedar and then coated it with 3 coats of clear satin gloss.
The edging around the top and bottom of the box is modelled plain also, however I used a patterned edging for mine. You can use anything here of any size, I have modelled with the basic dimensions of the edging I used. Out of the centre of the top edging on the front face of the box, I cut a section out to mount a brass latch. I mitred each side of this to give it a nice finish. I used fancier feet than shown here, but the dimensions are the same.
I put brass handles on the side and used a brass piano hinge for the lid.
As this is a toy box, and for added saftey for the youngesters, I added gas struts to support the lid.
Any questions let me know and I can send photos of the finished product.
