Built in 1906, the Yaffa Clock Tower was constructed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Abdul Hamid II's reign as Sultan. The Tower became a central part of the Palestinian city of Yaffa (called the Bride of the Mediterranean). After the birth of the State of Israel and the subsequent expulsion of most of the Palestinan residents of Yaffa, the clock tower was one of the few buildings that was not demolished.
