This crate uses 5mm underlayment plywood panels, and strapping ribs arranged in three layers around the panels. The deck boards are 20" 1x4s arranged on 2-2x3 runners. There are three inline 2x3 rub strips under each runner. The strapping ribs are mitered on each end to form a frame. Strapping material was run under the strips, over the ribs and staples were shot through the plywood above and below the straps to allow them to be moved rather than captured in place. We cinch down the panels to each other by threading the strap material through wire keepers. Hand pulling the straps tight formed a taught stable cap. The cap lower cleat frame is stapled to the deck boards of the base, and the top is stapled down to the side and end walls, through the upper rib frame. Once constructed, a 230 lb. load was set on top of the crate, and no strain was detected. (The load also made sure his feet were over the walls, and jumped up and down. No problems carrying his weight at all.) ID: L 48" x W 18.5" x H 20" OD: L 50 5/16” x W 20” x H 24”
