One of only three original buildings to survive from the infamous Storyville District, this brick structure, on the Uptown-Lakeside corner of Basin & Bienville, used to be two-stories tall: the second floor collapsed during Hurricane Betsy in the 1960s. It housed Lulu White's Saloon, built in 1908, which was next door to Lulu's posh Mahogany Hall, which was demolished in the 40's along with almost all the rest of Storyville to make way for the Iberville Housing Complex. Lulu's Saloon marked one corner of "the Line": that block of Basin Street between Bienville and Iberville where most of the iconic bordellos were located. It later became the 'Broadway Cabaret'. From 1909 to 1915 the 'Blue Book' was published on the the second floor. B&W photo on left dates from 1943. . . More on Saloon: http://medianola.tulane.edu/index.php/Lulu_White%27s_Saloon . . .
