Kapı ismini kemerin üzerine yontulmuş çift ağızlı baltadan alır. Bu kapı Milas'tan Labranda'ya giden kutsal yolun başlangıcıdır. Şehir duvarlarının bir parçası olan bu kapı M.Ö. 2.yüzyıla tarihlenir.
