Grade 2 Listed Building. Mid 18th C gazebo, folly and grotto set in the bank of a terraced garden (originally that of 'The Priory'). Ogee hipped Welsh slate roof. Decorative ashlar chimney on central apex of roof with stone ball finial. Ventilator at back of roof. Building square in plan. Central doorway with bolection moulded architrave; and pediment on console brackets. Brick walls with limestone ashlar dressings and chamfered quoins. 'Strawberry Hill Gothic' style octagonal and lozenge glazing patterns in the two single-sash windows and the part-glazed front door. The window that was originally on the rear elevation has been blocked up. Coved decorative eaves cornice with carving enrichment. Gazebo built over the grotto. Entrance tunnel to grotto set in a crenellated wall of tufa limestone. A decorative and picturesque addition to the scene in Dursley. The gazebo now overlooks the Dursley bowling green. 'The Priory' was renamed 'Townsend House' for some time during the 19th C but has reverted to being called 'The Priory'.
