One of the most collectible of modern chair designs, the Standard Chair (1934) rejected the Bauhaus movement’s sole affinity for tubular steel, relying instead on Prouvé’s inventive use of “bent, pressed and compressed” sheet metal for its strength. The method maximized the chair’s structural capacity by supporting the bulk of the user’s weight on two angular back legs. The durable plywood seat has a waterfall edge to promote circulation. Suitable for residential and commercial use.
