A gate designed by the Santa Fe architect John Gaw Meem for clients Brownell and Howland for one of their residences in the 1930's. Intentionally designed short to mimic the Spanish Colonial examples that it was derived from, a 5 to 9 inch sill was added below to make it easier to use. It was typically placed in a thick adobe property or garden wall with stepped massing incorporated over the top. This gate was later reproduced by "John Gaw Meem Designs" - a business run by his daugher Nancy Meem Wirth - that offered reproductions of many of JGM's door and gate designs he developed during his career.
