The Armor Support Fighting Vehicle is the european response to the Russian counterpart, the BMPT. Built on the same chassi as the Tiger III MBT in order to ease logistics and maintenance. When used in urban terrain, the ASFV is employed on a 2 to 1 ratio; meaning 2 ASFVs protecting one MBT. In rural operations that ratio is reversed, i.e. one ASFV protecting 2 MBTs. This results from the complexity of fighting in urban terrain and the need for a versatile anti-personnel machine that can engage multiple targets at once and on different height levels. The introduction of such a vehicle makes urban fighting less stressful on tanks and can relieve them of some of the workload so that they can concentrate on their main objective of engaging other tanks and hardened targets.
