Because their planet is mainly water, and they live IN the water, (For all the geniuses out there) the Calamare have developed different weapons that suit their environment. Think of this: How well do conventional weapons work when submerged? (Hint: very badly.) This weapon is an arc pistol, called so because it fires directed arcs of electricity at the target. The high voltage then electrocutes whatever is in the viewfinder. At this point, you may be asking, "How does it kill the target without killing the holder of the gun?" Good question! You see the rings around the gun barrel? Those create a weak magnetic field that directs the electricity in the direction that the gun is pointed. The gun's range is about 10 yards. Specialized versions of the gun, used by Calamarian authories, have small, simple computers in the viewfinder that has a "smart-target" system. All Calamarian police have RFID chips implanted in their necks and tentacles. The viewfinder reads the chip and determines whether it is friend or foe that the gun is aimed at. The gun is nearly impossible for humans to use, because the grips of the gun is fired using a negative-pressure sensitive pad. The sucker on the squid's hand activates the trigger. Humans have developed hand held devices resembling joy buzzers that create the suction needed to fire the gun, but the device is seldom used.
