Dymaxion Map from NOAA (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) • Original map patented in 1946 by Richard Buckminster Fuller • World map projected onto an icosahedron • When unfolded into a flat map, the Dymaxion Map does not seriously distort continent proportions, nor relative sizes, as do other map projections • Note that the NOAA map is oriented differently from the original designed by Fuller • Continents are cut by icosahedron edge division lines in an orientation that precludes unfolding a map that does not 'cut' across continents • See the model 'Dymaxion World Map - Fuller' for the map that more-faithfully reproduces Fuller's design
