Since I wasn't able to find an acurate 3d model of a viking ship on the internet I decided to build my own one.
I didn't have much knowledge about 3d modelling so sketchup is my first try to learn a little about it.
After several tryouts which all stalled, this is my first project I really finished.
The model represents a 9th century viking ship, based on all information I could find about the Gokstad ship found in a burial mound 1880,Norway.
The ship type is called Karve, and is not to be mistaken with the bigger longships.
Because I couldn't lay hands on much info about measurements and because of the complex shape which is hard to recreate with the geometric tools
provided in sketchup the model is accually really not that accurate but still -I think- gives a representive view of a ship with which the vikings navigated the rivers and seas,
plundered villages all over europe, traded with countries as far as the mediteranian and discovered America 500 years before Columbus did...

Feel free to comment, still much to learn about sketchup so I'm all ears for tips and tricks.
Since I created and uploaded this model, use it for whatever you want but please give me some credits;)
