WWII liberty ship. produced in great numbers from 1941-1945, libertys are are the most produced ship design in history with over 2700 launched. libertys formed the backbone of the american convoys, and became the simle of america military production in the war. liberties could carry 10,000 tones of cargo, or enough amo and food to suply a small army. liberty's were produced in astoundingly short periods of time due to mas production techniques, and pre fabricated parts. some liberties were created in under 10 days, with the robert E peary setting the altime record for speed, being built in 4 days, 19 hoursm and 29 minutes for the laying of the keel to delivery to the navy. libertys were designed to last 5 years each, but many lasted until the 1970's and 80's, despite old and outdated technology such as steam engines, and oil fired boilers. only two liberty ships remain active today. the ss jerimiah o'brien, and the john W. brown. my 199th model on the warehouse. range: 21,000 miles speed:10-15 knots cargo: 10, 000 tonnes, equal to 2840 jeeps, or 430,000 cases of rations or amo, or 260 tanks, or 180 dissasembled aircraft
