Maud is one of only two surviving Norfolk trading wherrys. They were an important part of the Broads waterways, delivering cargoes such as sugar beet or coal up and down the network of cuts and rivers. Maud was built in 1899, and lay for many years under water, until a local millwright took an interest in her. She was raised from the river and totally restored, and can now be seen sailing once again on the Broads. She is also on the Register of National Historic Ships. This model is situated next to new moorings provided for the new visitor centre at Hardley mill. I will add a separate model showing Maud in full sail with labels when I get time, to enlighten those who wish to know what the different part names of this boat are.
