The Skuldelev 2 was excavated in the Roskilde Fjord, Denmark, in 1957 by underwater archaeologists along with the remains of several other Viking ships. The boat was 30 meters long by 3.8 meters wide with a draught of 0.6 to 1.3 meters. The ship was capable of speeds of 15 to 20 knots under sail. It carried a crew of 65 including 60 rowers. Analysis of the timber indicates that the Skuldelev 2 was built in Dublin, Ireland, in May or June of 1042. The ship’s remaining parts, about 25% of the original, are on display in the Viking Ship Museum in Copenhagen. This model is based on a full-sized reproduction, called the Sea Stallion, which was built at the museum from Irish oak. In 2007 it sailed from Copenhagen to Dublin in where it was on display for a year before the return voyage to Denmark the following year. (The reflection on the water is dynamic and moves with the model.)
