I picked this place because of the location, the views and the weather. It´s tropical humid, and althogh is really warm, there are rainy months. I called this project, The Onion, because of the shape and the fact that I use "layers" to protect it from the sun, rain and helps the circulation of the air.. is not a closed shelter, is an open one, that people can go and stay there as long as they need/want.. but in case it hast to be closed, there are bamboo walls that can be put on, helping the shelter to avoid any kind of risk or just giving it privacy. This shelter is design for tropical weather, that´s why we considered: - Light and Ventilation: - Double heights, result of composition of covers. - Open spaces between "layers" - Floor or deck separated or the ground, to permit ventilation and natural circulation of the wind, this way cooling the building and also protecting from animals or bugs, so common found on this kind of weather. - Different spaces on deck, inside and outside the big roofs creating another kind of areas. - Rain protected naturally because of the design of the roof.. - No need of walls, and if it needed, they can be made of bamboo, to sync with the whole design. - Height may vary according of the necessities of the place. - Total combination with nature, permitting trees from the zone be part of the project, bamboo or other tree´s trunk, may be used for structure (columns) and easily ensembled to the roof.
