This is a model of the famous National Hotel on Collins Ave, before it was renovated four times. This the a fairly accurate replica of the architects design. This building is typical MiMo. MiMo means: "Miami Modern deco". This means it wasn't built in the Art Deco period, but it actually was inspired by it. The building stands next to the Delano hotel, which is also a nice MiMo building. The wings of the back of the National Hotel extend toward the ocean, while the front borders Collins Avenue. The fenestration provides the interest here (as in Modernist buildings) while decoration is kept to a minimum. The tower, with openings like a church bell tower, has an onion-shaped dome--adding a middle Eastern touch. Decorative escutcheons were added to the top of each of the side bays while it was being restored by the city. Roy F. France, 1940
