This is from december 09, and is the first proper scetch up model I made, hence the strange looking armour:o). This was the prooving ground for the zeppelin shape I am using. The idea being that these ships have a central spine gravity generator, like walking along the top of a massive pipe. the decks are layered asound this,like an onion. The reasoning for this is to provide just three directions in space, for the crew. Forward rearward, and up. Thus all sides of the ship are equally well armed and armoured. It tapers at both ends to provide stepped weapons fire with small silouette, like the old battleships, also it har many small thrusters instead of few big ones. this should make the drives harder to knock out. There's lots more theory, and I'll to write some more about it in my blog, but this is short explanation for the shape.
