An accurate replica of the Inca ruins on top of Wayna Picchu (Huayna Picchu), which is the mountain just north of the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru. For more info see www.peru.info. The mountain is seen in the background in most traditional Machu Picchu photos and is around 1000' higher than Machu Picchu. At the top of the mountain there are various Inca structures and terraces. The model contains every building, structure, terrace and staircase and even the tunnel near the summit. The model was constructed using data from a laser scan of the site carried out by the University of Arkansas and is accurate to less than half a metre (2 feet). It was necessary to model the entire mountain as it was missing from the Google Earth terrain. This model is one of a pair, the other being of Machu Picchu itself. Data developed under the authority of the Instituto Nacional de Cultura, Vladimir Dávila - Arquitecto del P.A.N Machu Picchu, Director del P.A.N Machu Picchu Direccion Regional de Cultura Cusco and Fernando Astete - National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu. Data acquired, processed and distributed by the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies staff (Snow Winters, Malcolm Williamson and Katie Simon) and by students in the 2009 Cotsen Institute for Archaeology (UCLA) Cuzco/Machu Picchu Field School, Alexei Vranich Director. Modelled by Peter Olsen, Brighton-le-Sands, Sydney, Australia.
