Designer(s): Trevor Pan;
Location: Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Arizona;
Year: 2006.
Pan, a former landscape architecture student, balanced his design by placing a lightweight shelter on a weighty, carefully sculpted concrete base. While the original apprentice tent structures were pyramid shaped, Pan’s walls––made of waterproof canvas, wooden blinds, steel, and glass––lean outward, lending the structure a more permanent character. The shelter’s interior refers subtly to Wright’s seating arrangements in the living room of Taliesin West.
