The Chapel of San Antonio has stood at the narrow entry to La Loma Plaza since the middle of the 19th century, although San Antonio has always been considered the patron saint of the settlement, according to oral tradition. Originally flat roofed, it recieved it's' pitched wooden roof and cupola in the 1960's. La Loma Plaza itself, dating to the late 18th to early 19th century, is one of the best preserved enclosed fortified plazas remaining in New Mexico, and was declared a Historic District in 1982.
