The Photon Rug adds a twist (literally) to the iconic shag rug – each tendril is offset by a contrasting color in the center (cream for the charcoal rug, chartreuse for the cream), furthering its fluid, three-dimensional quality. Hand-loomed and hand-bound in India, the effect is achieved by taking high-quality wool that is wrapped around a differently colored acrylic center and then felted. It takes two to three days to produce just one rug. Photon’s high wool content means a natural resistance to dirt, as well as flame retardancy. The Photon Rug’s manufacturer is a member of Rugmark, which ensures that the Photon is manufactured in a socially responsible manner. The global nonprofit organization is fighting to end child labor and improve educational opportunities for children in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Photon may shed and have slight inconsistencies in edging, traits that are consistent with handcraftsmanship. Made in India.
