This is Wikea, a 6" f/4.5 travel telescope that I built a few years back. The 'tube' is comprised of 3 main components. The lower tube assembly (LTA) houses the primary mirror. This is connected to the upper tube assembly (UTA) by a square tube. The eyepiece holder, finder, and secondary mirror are all attached to the UTA. It is smaller than the primary mirror, so it is effectively a curved-vein spider and light shield all in one. Focus is accomplished by shortening/lengthening the square tube, bringing the LTA and UTA closer or farther apart. This square tube is actually 2 nesting pieces of square aluminum tubing, connected by a threaded rod, with some teflon in critical spots (which technically makes this a variation on the sled-type focuser). This tube collapses fully for transport. Everything but the tripod fits into a small case which can be stowed in the overhead compartment of an airplane. Setup time is under 5 minutes.
The mount that I designed in Sketchup (shown here) vibrates too much, so it has been replaced with a simpler, sturdier mount (I will update the file when time allows). The whole thing sits atop of a sturdy tripod.
FYI, Wikea is a contraction of "wiki" (quick--quickly built, and quick to assemble/disassemble), and IKEA (the Swedish company that sold me the cylinder-shaped components that I used for the LTA and UTA).
