[Visual mneonic for following] When designing stairs : Allow enough "run" for the steps to "rise" to the next floor. Allow clearance to avoid bumping a head on the ceiling over the stair. Try to allow additional "run" for landings, especially at the bottom and top. Note that the floor itself can serve as a final step up.
