Grade 1 Listed Building. Tetbury Anglican parish church. A Saxon church originally stood on this site. It was replaced around 1160, and a tower and spire added in the 14th C. The spire reaches 186 feet, making it the fourth highest in England. Severe storm damage of 1662 was repaired with a grant from the Feoffees (feudal society). The church at this time had a medium height nave and two north aisles and one south aisle of similar height. The rambling building fell into a ruinous state by the Early 18th C. The church was largely rebuilt by Francis Hiorne of Warwick, 1776-81, creating a lofty and spacious building that has been described as one of the triumphs of the Gothic Revival. Hiorne retained the medieval west tower which was later rebuilt in facsimile during the next major restoration and rebuilding work by F.W. Waller, 1890-93. The four-stage tower has diagonal buttresses, battlements, pinnacles and the exceptionally tall spire. The spire has lucarne dormers; and the tower has an octagonal stair vice in the battlemented and cone-roofed corner turret. The church has very large stained glass windows with Coade-stone tracery in Perp style. Seven bays of windows in nave. The shallow one-bay chancel has a fine east-window. There is a hipped roof over the nave complete with pinnacled and battlemented parapet. Trios of lancet windows illuminate the low lateral cloister ambulatory passages that flank the aisles adjacent the nave.
