Grade 2* Listed Building. Tyndale Monument by S.S. Teulon. Set in a commanding position on Nibley Knoll hill above the village, it was designed in 1862 and work began in 1863. The construction was faulty. Work began again in 1865 and was completed in 1866. It is a tapering French Gothic stone tower, square in plan and 39 metres high. It has an internal spiral stair leading to a gallery and look-out. The tower has a pyramid top with closed machiolations. The inscription roundel above the entrance reads: "Erected A.D. 1866 in grateful remembrance of William Tyndale, translator of the English Bible who first caused the New Testament to be printed in the mother tongue of his countrymen; born near this spot, he suffered martyrdom [burned at the stake] at Vilvorde in Flanders on October 6rh, 1536".
