Chinese guardian lion statue. One of a pair flanking the Dragon Gate at the entrance to Chinatown in San Francisco. A gift from the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 1969. Male lion with ball under one paw. Sculpted in stone; and set on stone plinth. The pair of fearsome mythical Chinese lions (called "foo dogs") repel evil.
