Completely enclosed in a block of other buildings, but remarkable because of its length. Occupies the site of the Old Dutch Church, built in 1640 (New Dutch Church since its enlargement in 1732). In 1808, an earthquake destroyed the church. This building was built on that site, in 1912, in Neo Renaissance style. Initially a warehouse for Geo Wehry & Co. In 1938, the whole building was renovated and adjusted to current Dutch colonial architectural standards. The open garden in the back of the Museum was (is?) the burial site of Jan Pieterszoon Coen, the founder of Batavia, and also houses some of the tomb stones of other influential Batavians who used to be buried there.
