Teacher and master woodworker Gary Rogowski (who runs the Northwest Woodworking Studio in Portland, Oregon) first made this stool more than 25 years ago. He's made dozens more over the years. He wrote an article about how to make it in a 1988 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine. The design is heavily influenced by Japanese woodworking as well as the work of James Krenov. Whether in SketchUp or the shop, cutting the splayed legs and angled tenons on the stretchers is a major challenge.
