Foundation stone: 27 Jan 1979, dedication: 1 Sep 1984. The Samoan temple reflects the traditional island-houses. These “fales” are circular, open assembly buildings. This Bahá’í-house of worship with its 33 meter dome looks very small because of its pure and distinct design. The light flows in through several windows - for example between the nine shells of the dome. Looking upwards you can watch the clouds crossing the blue sky. The diagonal pillars inside the temple not only represents the “fales”-design. They do support the building against earthquakes too, which are common on this island. Up to 1.700 people can be placed inside the building (500 seats, 200 places on the second floor and another 1.000 using the entrance areas).
